Job Title: Part time London Press Officer

Length of Contract: The contract will run from 16th January to 30th June 2012.

Reporting to: Full time GLA Campaign Press Officer with overall accountability to the London Federation of Green Parties’ Media Officer.

Place of Work: Green Party Office and (where appropriate) working from home.

Hours: 12 hours per week, timetabled through agreement with line manager.

Salary: £11.50 per hour

Main duties

For the duration of the GLA campaign you will be part of a London staff team that includes a full time Press Officer, a full time Assistant to the Mayoral candidate and a team of media volunteers.

1) Provide support, assistance and advice for London Assembly candidates and local parties in their media work.

2) Provide a liaison between local parties, candidates and the London media team.

3) Attend constituency and local party events (where appropriate).

4) Assist the full-time press officer to:

a) Ensure campaign messages are given maximum media publicity in accordance with the agreed London Elections Strategy.

b) Work closely with the GLA Campaign Team, candidates and campaign activists to organise media events and publicity.

c) Contact journalists in press, broadcast and online media and circulate regular press releases, using the London Green Party media database.

5) As part of the broad Green Party media team be included in a rota of media contacts out of office hours.

Person specification

1. Demonstrable experience working within a communication, press or other media environment.

2. Experience of working with published, electronic, and broadcast media

3. Experience of working in a political or campaigning environment.

4. A sympathy with and understanding of green politics.

5. Experience of working with volunteers.

6. Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills

7. Creative written ability and ability to write press releases and briefings to tight deadlines

8. Computer literacy

9. The ability to perform internet-based research and write briefings

10. The ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritise competing demands

11. An ability to work with a wide range of people with varying demands

12. An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities in employment and service delivery.
