In just nine days time the city decides its future. It isn’t just about how bendy we like or buses or whether City Hall resubscribes to the Morning Star. It’s about what kind of Mayor we have, of course, but also what political priorities the city wants to set.

Cycle safety, tube and bus fares, rape crisis centers, police deployment and accountability, action on waste and action on pollution – the Assembly Members and Mayor we elect on Thursday week will determine London’s direction of travel for the next four years, so let’s try not too steer towards any cliffs.

If you’re wondering how  to vote our election guide should help as well as our index of Constituency candidates. We’ve been looking at the election broadcasts and will now be moving on to the election manifestos of the parties. You can see the Mayoral booklet for yourself if you’ve not yet received one here (courtesy of the ever helpful Mark Pack).

For voters on the left you might be interested in this meeting in Housmans this Friday night where Labour MP John McDonnell, RMT President Alex Gordon and chair of Green Party women Natalie Bennett discuss “Can there be a London Spring?”.

More importantly if you’d like to contribute to our election coverage in this last week and a bit it’s time to get your skates on! You can send links that yo think we should include in our regular round-ups, or write us something for inclusion in our “voices” section – we want to make sure we’ve given everyone a fair go so don’t feel that we’ll only include articles that conform to our right-on communist agenda.

All contributions should be sent to editorial@bigsmoke.org.uk, we’d love to hear from you.
