So you may have heard that we have just survived the annual, international No Trousers on the Tube day. Sunday was the third time that London has born witness to gangs of hipsters indulging their social, yet surreal, side so publicly.
Apparently 59 cities around the world take part in the wheeze with flashmobs of keckless commuters, who are mainly organised online, calmly taking the tube with the wind whistling around their knees.
As Bella Mackie argues ” The photos from the event show a surreal camaraderie that is unusual in big cities where you normally go out of your way to avoid having to look people in the eye… To brave a cold and dirty tube station in just a threadbare pair of Y-fronts, purely with the intention of making people smile at your sheer gumption, is something we should all applaud. Of course, for most of us that will be from some distance, with our jeans firmly zipped up and our teeth gritted at the ready.”
The Guardian has pictures from London and around the world, Going Underground has pics and vids, as does The Mirror, The Daily Mail is in hog heaven being both outraged at decadence and printing plenty of pictures for us to get equally, cough, outraged. Dave211, Jean-Francoise, Time Out and Pete Maclaine also have a some snaps.
You can learn more at the organisers’ YouTube channel, but you may feel you already know enough.
